Derrick Gonzales – Director of Coaching/Soccer Operations

Derrick was born and raised in Moses Lake, playing in the CBYSA (Columbia Basin Youth Soccer Association) leagues and for Columbia Basin United. Limited with his competitive playing options at 13, he began to make the trip to play for Spokane Sounders’ founding club, Spokane Shadow SC, in the top division of club soccer in Washington State, what is now the RCL. He went on to play for numerous clubs and top-level coaches around the state including Seattle United, Three Rivers SC, and in the Washington State Olympic Development program, eventually earning a full-ride scholarship to play for Saint Martin’s University in the Men’s NCAA Division II GNAC conference. He also played for the Spokane Shadow Men’s First Team. Throughout college, Derrick assisted local soccer clubs and coaches in their training through volunteer assistant coaching.
After his playing career, he returned to Moses Lake. He began coaching for Endeavour Soccer Academy in 2017 for the boys 2004/2005 age group and is now the current Moses Lake High School boy’s head soccer coach. Currently, Derrick teaches in the Moses Lake School District.
Derrick has been involved with soccer organizations, people, and culture throughout the state for his entire life. He wants to bring that culture and opportunity to The Basin community to provide youth soccer players with all the resources and support required to go after their goals. “I have seen incredible talent brought up in this area, and I want these players to have a supportive, professional organization that they can rely on to guide, develop, and advocate for their best interests so that they can achieve whatever goals they have set out for themselves. I have studied, observed, and participated in communities that are “talent hotbeds” of soccer. Two things that I hope to bring to The Basin are unity and an organized concentration of resources, and I stand by those guiding principles as the leader of Basin Sounders.”
